About the developer of MyConversations

You might decide that MyConversations is a worthwhile plugin, and even that you could make use of it on your own board, but who is its developer?

I'm Laird, born in South Africa in 1977, emigrating to Australia with my family in 1987, and beginning to code around the same time, in BASIC on a ZX Spectrum. I've been programming on and off ever since, including professionally. My programming employers have always been pleased with my work - not so much my occasional fruit-picking employers though! Desk work suits me better than farm labour.

I discovered MyBB around 2017, and when a few of us decided to start a board on which to discuss anomalous experiences, I suggested MyBB. By hosting the forum ourselves, we would have control over not just our data but also the code that ran the forum, and other than domain registration and hosting fees, we wouldn't have to pay anything. We got that forum off the ground as Psience Quest.

Since then, I have contributed back to the MyBB community in various ways, including by reporting and fixing bugs in MyBB core, maintaining preexisting free plugins as a member of the unofficial MyBB Group (including the Thank you/like system and the FancyBox plugin), creating my own free MyBB plugins (including Active Threads, Link Tools, and Image Auto-Resizer), and answering questions and solving problems on the MyBB Community forums (as Laird).

From March of 2021 until December of 2022 I was a MyBB staff developer, after being invited to apply and my application being accepted. Free and voluntary contributions (MyBB staff are unpaid volunteers) back to the MyBB community are only appropriate reciprocation of course, but perhaps you will view the purchase of MyConversations as valid financial support of an ongoing contributor to MyBB. Either way, I wish you and the rest of our MyBB community the very best.
